or Will Someone, Please! Wake Me Up From this Nightmare

A veil of ignorance seems to have descended upon the people of this country,
but especially those in the Senate and House of Representatives. Our Congresspeople should be the leaders who defend our democracy.
What is happening in the U.S. right now is not at all surprising. We saw this coming.
The descent into autocracy/plutocracy is underway. We are verge of chaos, widespread and avoidable suffering, widespread and avoidable homelessness, and widespread and avoidable hunger and starvation, and so much more that is hard to even imagine.
Many of us, at least those who care, feel helpless and hopeless. I’m writing this piece to fight those feelings and to feel that maybe I can have an effect. I’m also writing on an almost daily basis letters to my legislators, as well as legislators from other states and territories. I’m also writing to people in the media.
I’m limited in what I can do. But, I’m writing and hoping that the “pen is mightier than the sword” or that computer keyboard is mightier than the sword.
Besides getting older, what once would have been a secure retirement is not. We can no longer get guaranteed pensions, so that a downturn in the economy can wipe out our retirement savings, while the investment companies still make money. What was intended to be a government handled retirement fund (Social Security), as well as health insurance program (Medicare), are no longer a certainty. The money we’ve put into these two programs may be stolen by the Coup Conspirators. And, what happens when Social Security is stolen, when Medicare is stolen, and when our pension funds are stolen? We’ll lose our houses. We’ll lose our abilities to have and maintain cars. We will no longer be able to buy food. We won’t be able to see any kind of healthcare providers or even buy off-the-shelf or over-the-counter medications. We certainly will not be able to get prescription medications. If you’re in chronic pain or have an chronic illness, you won’t be able to get any sort of treatment and certainly no pain medications. If you’re disabled and unable to work, you will have no income at all and no support of any kind. This a terribly bleak outlook for a country of such great wealth and potential. But, the wealthy will get wealthier. The wealthy can delete our identities, so we no longer exist by any official account. We won’t be voters. We won’t have drivers licenses, passports, or Social Security number. We’ll be slaves to the corporate overlords, anxiously selling our souls to get scraps of food. — I really hope this doesn’t happen, but it could.
Maybe it won’t get quite so bad, but it could even be worse. And, it most certainly could get this bad for far too large a part of our society. There are already too many people, including families, living on the streets, begging for food, in dire need of healthcare, and unable to find work and/or a place to live. Without an address, these people “don’t exist.” They can’t vote. They are already where the “governing”(?) Coup group want the majority of people to be.
We are watching what happens when human beings lose their humanity, are unable to feel empathy, unable to care about another person, are unable to manifest integrity, are chronically dishonest, have lost any semblance of decency, or no longer have any other positive attribute of a living organism. These are zombie lords, caught up in their own desolate, hateful, vengeful, greedy, desperate egos.
Last evening, February 22, 2025, Ayman Mohyeldin’s show on MSNBC, Ayman was interviewing Stacy Placket, a member of the House Of Representatives from the Virgin Islands. At one point in the interview, she said, “our hands are tied. There’s nothing we can do.” She added some comments about how Trump, Musk, and their minions are breaking laws and nothing is happening. At that point, I started screaming and cursing at the TV, and proceeded to turn it off. There’s just so much idiocy I can take in and still maintain my own sanity.
But, this is exactly the problem! All of our politicians who aren’t a part of the Coup, are stuck in their own heads and shared delusional world. Oh, we can’t do anything — is about as insane as the Coup group is. Both sides are stuck in delusional worlds of their own making. And, this is exactly what happens when we view any sort of social system as being solid and “real.” We’re trapped by our own blindness, unable to distinguish between “real” and REAL. We made up these systems. There is nothing solid or unchangeable about them. When our systems become dysfunctional or pathological, we can fix them, but not from within the system. We created them. We can re-create them. But, to re-create and fix the system, we have to step outside the system, outside the norms, outside of our personally create traps.
In our present situation, our legislators have sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution. The House of Representatives and Senate are the nations law makers. Our judges and justices swear to uphold and defend the Constitution, as well as to uphold the laws and deliver justice. The “president,” “vice president,” many legislators, at least 2 or 3 of the Supreme Court justices, many other government employees, including Elon Musk, have broken laws, and/or oaths of office. And, then for our politicians, our leaders, to say that there is nothing they can do is a complete cop-out, not to mention dangerous. When they do this, they become complicit with the Coup by playing helpless.
Judges can swear in new law enforcement officers, many of whom could be gleaned from the agents fired by the Coup group. Then, this newly minted law enforcement officers can arrest everyone who has been breaking laws and oaths of office. At this point, we can’t just continue with the broken aspects of the judicial system, but to return to the fundamentals of maintaining a democratic society, but with no intolerance for treason or overthrowing our government.
At this point, it might be good to put together a temporary interim government executive council with a Republican (maybe Adam Kinsinger), a Democrat (not a wimpy one, like almost all of them), and an Independent (maybe Bernie Sanders). We can’t just go back to the dysfunctional system. We must first involve everyone in the country in redesigning and updating our system of government to “flatten” the hierarchy, and then update our Constitution, all government agencies and departments in order to address the issues of the 21st Century and beyond. We must tighten loopholes, speed up and make the judicial system more effective, and build in the flexibility to maintain a democratic society in a changing world. We can do this. Taking back the government and arresting those who’ve broken their oaths and an assortment of laws is an immediate short-term process. Then we need to address issues in all of our socio-political systems And, then rebuild a caring, decent, and equitable social context. This has to be a multi-faceted approach across all social contexts.
This second longterm process needs to heal the emotional and psychological damage done to people And, we need work diligently through education, places of religious or spiritual practices, work places, news media, healthcare, social welfares, and so on to begin the processes of deep and meaningful learning and understandings that no longer dumb us down and that just reinforce authoritarian hieracrchies.
In the meantime, we need to push our politicians to take action. Talk with other people about anything. We need to be nice and kind to each other. Be decent, Help others. Try to laugh, smile, and be positive.
That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes…. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

COMMENTARY:
Many people contend that the Declaration of Independence is not a “legal” document, and is nothing more than an historical curiosity. However, that contention makes no sense. Why did the founders spend considerable time, effort, and thought on crafting and signing this document, if it was not intended to be taken seriously as one of three foundational documents for this new nation? The Declaration lays out the history and rationale for their separation from the British monarchy. It also described and warned of the eminent danger of slipping back into authoritarian rule. They then describe what to do if the Republic is threatened by an authoritarian government. The Declaration of Independence provides the overall contexts from which the Constitution and Bill of Rights were developed. It is as much a “law” of the land as any article or amendment to the Constitution.

Dear Senator or Representative name,
I am writing to let you know that we need you to help organize and implement immediate action to stop the present Coup. This group of conspirators has and continues to break numerous laws, ignore court mandates, and ignore their oaths of office. There is no way to stop them while assuming that the system is still working. It is NOT. In order to avoid a complete take over and loss of our democracy, as well as an incredible amount of unnecessary pain and suffering of hundreds of millions of Americans and other around the world, you MUST TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION. Organize judges and your colleagues to swear in a new law enforcement task force, and start everyone involved in and supporting the Coup. Waiting to take action will only make it much more difficult, it will increase the likely of violence.
Please stand up for our country. Be courageous. Take back our country.
